djFLASH: Mix-Adventures continue…

FLASH-BACK: It’s the early 80’s when break-dancing, spinning on your head and doing the robot was cool. The 808 drum-beats of ElectroFunk and Miami Free-style co-mingled with the Moog synths of Euro-Pop and New Wave; the underground pulse of New York Club and Chicago House paired with German & Detroit Techno; the international flair of Italo-Disco blended with the trance-electronica eminating from the clubs of Ibiza. That’s when I began to really take notice.
Still too young to hit the clubs, I use to sit at home Saturday nights entertained by DJs and mixers that would bring the club scene to the mainstream via weekend radio mix shows (WBMX, WGCI, B-96, WDAI/Chicago; WJLB, WDRQ/Detroit; KACE, KJLH/Los Angeles; WBLS, WKRS, WKTU/New York; WHRK/Memphis; WHQT/Miami). The vibe was energetic and fun. I discovered other party people listened and enjoyed the mix-sets as well. From that moment, I so much wanted to play a role in it. Armed with a simple record-player, reel-to-reel and boom-box, I began playing and collecting 45’s, albums, cassettes and 12″ vynil.
FLASH-FORWARD: It’s a new millennium (a digital world full of mp3s, CDJs and downloads). Those danceable rhythmic vibes remain just as fun and energetic to me. With broadcast radio experience under my belt and the DJ-mixing skills to boot, I NOW see myself very much a part of this vibe with no signs of letting up… and so, my Mix-Adventures continue…
